hi again guys got another good question im going to do a maf conversion on my 86 f150 302 and im going to punch it 30 over now that being said would i be able to SIMPLY and EASILY swap in a roller cam and also slap some mustang heads and intakes on the thing i mean mustang 302 performance parts are a dime a dozen but the truck 302s are little harder to buy for i would really appreciate any knowledge, thoughts, or ideas thanks again fellas
Sure. You'll need to brush up on your Ford small block architecture.
If you change the firing order to a windsor type you could put together a 5.0 type combination that would not require mass air and get great performance and mileage. Cams generally are where any modification gets more involved. I have used truck cores for mustang builds. 85 and later blocks are roller cam capable but might not have the bosses drilled for the roller spider.Tap those holes and you could put a stock Mustang roller cam in and head and intake mods.
im getting super involved its either this road or a carbed 351 or a carbed big block i really want to get some power flowing through truck and really iwas 351 but i would really like to "try" and keep daily driver reliabilty and going the maf seemed like a good thought cause id get to hop up my motor on stang goodies maybe even swap over a serpentine system even and get to tune and drive on hopefully good mpgs
1. A truck is a heavy brick, very much different from a lightweight mustang.
2. Most modifications are going to raise horsepower, but also raise the rpm where it's created.
You will find most mustangs with modifications have also changed the gearing in the rearend to take advantage of the power made in the higher rpms. This will be doubly important in a heavy truck with the 302. In the end it doesn't sound like a winning combo for fuel mileage. Probably the best you can hope for is the same mileage you have now with more power.
