Hi everyone i was looking at painting my stock rims black. I wasn't sure if i should do a matte black or a gloss black. i want to keep the lug covers silver. my questions are what do you guys think of doing that? matte or gloss black? and if you guys have any photos of excursions with painted rims? thx alot guys
There would be something quite striking about gloss-black rims to match the black paint of the X, but I fear that it would be a maintenance nightmare. Gloss shows every imperfection and you'd have to plan to wash the rims every time you took her out. The break dust, road dirt, mud, etc. would tend to make the rims look more matte finish than gloss.
I think that I'd try matte, but there's a good argument to be made for painting them glossy black and if it's a problem, falling back to matte later.

I had a set of stock wheels painted gloss black on a little VW GTI VR6 I had way back when. It wasn't too bad to keep clean and I loved the look. Paint held up pretty good too.
I went by a local powdercoat shop and they were going to charge me 250.00 to do all 5 of the wheels on my Land Rover in matte black. Pretty cheap and would hold up way better than rattle can. Just a thought. I prefer flat over gloss.
i've been thinking of painting my winter wheels, they are the same factory limited wheels i have but have not found the right color tan i want to go with. i want to try and match the lower trim color on my limited.
