Clicking and pegging

So my front left hub might be clicking. I've used 4wd several times and always disengage the hu s afterwards. Is their a test or something to look for so i can determine if the hubs are the culprit. Second, my tach works fine sometime but most of the time it's pegged at 3600. Sensor or bad gauge. Directions for cluster removal on brittle plastic old truck. Thanks
