when i had my 99 dodge the "sweet spot" for mpg and power was always just shy of 2000 rpm.... every trip i made i ran it at 2k never paid attention much to the speedometer as it was always less than 70mph
i was wondering what everyone thought the "sweet spot" on the 6.0's is???
my rpm seems to vary a little but my truck feels like it runs best @ 70mph or more
Yea these V8s build their torque a lot higher than the cummins. I've towed my rig w both and I noticed the dodge will do a lot better on hills where my truck wants to downshift. But that motor is the only good thing about the dodge. I hate the truck it self. They are basically disposable if you use them for work.
6.0's like the RPM's. My particular truck likes about 2250 but Johnny Law doesn't like that too much--LOL
That's what mine likes as well, but with 4.30 gears that translates to a slightly different speed.
When I had the 02 cummins, I remember I had to fight that thing on the highway even on flat ground. The 6.0 stock is a little slower to get going, but it seems to handle the top speeds a whole lot better.
Peak TQ on a stock truck is around the 2k mark, depending on gearing that could fluctuate slightly with speed end of it, however, it should translate to no more than the speed limit on most interstate roads in the US. Some have gone back to a lower limit, I don't know if they reverted back to the 70 mph limit yet or not.

with 4:11 gears my dodge was a stump puller!!!! and it had to be a very big hill to make it downshift..... but i will agree the rest of the truck NEVER compared to this truck i have now!!!!
i was only asking my questions because it seems to WANT TO run more than 2000rpm if it wasnt for cruise control i would be broke from the fines lol
I've noticed I get my best mileage right under 2000 rpm, which is right at 70 mph for me. If I go above 2000 rpm, the mileage starts to go down. Of course, that's with the stock tuning. I'll be doing a road trip in a couple weeks and I'm curious if the new tune will change the sweet spot or if it's more a matter of aerodynamics than torque/hp.
Still have posted as "test" sections but they have expanded them to be much longer, however, the state troopers will write you up even at 3 mph above the posted limit if caught.......they don't mess around but I have learned their hiding spots from St George all the way up to SLC. I have the alert on my gps head unit sound off when getting close to their traps and I drop it from 80 to 75 in the 75 zones. Funny thing is EVERY person I see pulled over has Cali plates!
