I was wondering if anyone out there knows where I can get replacement hardware for these mirrors (from a '77 crew cab, going onto my '74). Specifically what I need is the band that holds the mirror to the round tubing (see attached picture). The PO seems to have tried to tighten the attachment by stuffing pieces of a rat-tail file in between the band and the tubing. The band has stretched (deformed) enough so that it is pretty much useless.
I would really like to find a stainless steel OE replacement part, but barring that, I want something that does not look bodged together (like a radiator hose clamp). If worse comes to worse, I might find someone who could weld a stainless steel mount to the tube, but if I were going to go through all that trouble I would spend $200 on the brand new mirrors with the modern mounting.
Do the replacement heads come with the clamp? I saw some at the local autoparts place and they didn't look like they came with clamps. Yeah, I want to avoid destroying the stainless tubes, though they are a little bunged up from the half baked repair.
The Clamps on my new' 74 (it was west coast mirrors FORD one's too) are just like the ones on your truck . To keep the clamp tight they (fomoco) put what looks like 5/8''s heater hose. It works very well and it does not mark up the tubes , give that a try .

I'll look for the mirrors that come with clamps, but in the mean time, heater hose is a great idea. I hadn't thought of that, but it looks like it will give me enough room to tighten down the clamp enough to keep the mirror in place without munching up the tube any more than it already is.
