2000 with battery light

2000 with battery light
When driving and it kicks down or got wot at 4500rpm the battery light comes on and goes off when it shifts and was wondering why? Is my alternator going bad?

Yup. Been there/done that on a 2000. IF you have a handful of tools and a few minutes, it's pretty simple.
