the plastic trim around my back window and between the hood and winsheild and around the top of the bed is looking kinda bad. ive tried amorall and some other stuff but it only looks good till it dries. question is can you paint that stuff to make it look new again?
My auto teacher bought a 05 and all the black plastic was fadded out terrible, we preasure washed it then put that back to black on it and it worked great, I can't remember what company makes it but I'm pretty sure its in a red bottle. I'd try that before I painted it.
Painted mine years ago, really popped on a white truck and the paint has held up a lot better than the plastic dye ever did. Easiest way is to just tape of the ring and rattle can it, plastic adhesive promoter it first. Can be done for under $40 with the tape, some newspaper and paint.
I used back to black on my tailgate handle and thought it was more labor intensive, think it took 4 applications to get it black again. I also painted my bed rail caps black at the same time I did the rear window surround.
I did my 97 about 4 years ago with krylon Plastic spray cans, it looked great and lasted until I traded it off on an 03 this spring.( Just finished doing the 03 last week!)
Just make sure you follow the directions on the can for prep. and use at least 3 coats.
Mine was painted white years ago and is doing fine.
I found some stuff called Showroom New, that does a pretty good job on plastic. I used it on my wife's Jeep and it really brought the plastic back. Not showroom new but a lot better than what it was. That was over a year ago I treated it and it's still holding up.
I went to Mattos, and they fixed me up with everything I needed. Washed, prepped, taped off and sprayed with rattle cans. I even bought paint for the wiper arms. After three years it's still holding up.
Yep, forgot the wiper arms I did them and the cowl cover as well, also forgot to mention I clear coated everything. About 3 layers of paint then 3 layers of clear.
