I have purchase a 1999 Ranger 4X4. Doorajar light is illuminated, dome light doesn't work. Had following codes B1302, B1313, B1371, B1398 and B1318. Also these codes: P1824, P1820, P1828, P1838, P1891 and P1867
4WD Doesn't work but transfer case is locked in as you can"t turn the hub for the front shaft.
I have a ethos scanner. Hooked it up and pulled these codes. Cleared them and got the codes for both left and right door ajar sensors fault to ground, B1371 but not 1318 again. Any ideas where to start at? once cleared no oneofthePcodes have returned....yet.
Thanks for the reply. I am use to working on the big stuff(Peterbilt, International, ETC) so forgive me for this next question. Generic Electronic Module, from what I have read, this controls most of what I am haveing issues with currently, correct? Any idea on the location of this item?
I work two jobs and do not get home until 12:30 most nights. So that leaves the weekend to do my looks overs at the Ranger.
I was checking the fuses. suprise suprise, #26 was missing. I put one of the spares(20 AMP) in. the dome light came on and stays on. Even with the doors closed and the dimmer/dome lite switch not in the dome mode. The 4WD works and cycles with the switch and it goes thru the complete confirmed cycle.
I guess the next thing to do is going after the door ajar switches in the doors. I will post results.
Well, I took the door panels off. first I disconnected the left side. The"DOOR AJAR" light stayed on. Then I dissconnected the switch in the right door. DOOR AJAR light went out. I then reconnected the left door switch to see if it was still good. The DOOR AJAR light went out when I closed the door. So, to me, that is indicating the switch in the right door was the culprit. I put a fuse back in #26 and now have a dome light again. I'll clear any codes and see if they return now. I will update in the near future.

Reason: forgot to put something in
To fix the door ajar problem, try spraying WD40 (a lot of it) in the door latch (on the door) and open close the door (s) a number of times. You may have to wait overnight for the stuff to do its magic. I would do BOTH doors! This is a very common Ford problem.
