Ok guys sorry if these are dumb quest. I just got my first ford its a f350 lariat crewcab 4x4 with V10. What is the first thing other then a complete tune up what do you guys reccomend doing to it. I don't use it for towing much just gotta great deal on it so it will be my everyday truck. Would like better mpg but seems like that might be nature of the beast. Thanks and have really enjoyed this site so far. Thanks
Seafoam the thing, that will help some on MPG. Cleans injectors really good. Aftermarket cold air intake or at least a K&N filter replacment. If nothing else paint it red. that will make it go fast! LOL
I guess you could try the after market filter but I'm not sure how much gain you"ll actually get. I try to be light on the pedal..unless someone pisses me off! I normally get around 9-10 city and the best I ever got even with the factory tires was 14 highway, so save up some dough and hope the price of gasoline doesn't get any higher...cause I'm not parting with mine. Good luck with the new truck
Feed the engine and be happy...that's about the only solution. Mods and maintenance will help keep the MPGs from getting worse, but 10-11mpg average is reasonable.
If there was a magic bullet, Ford would have fired it.

GAH! NOOOOOOO....
Do the tune up, clean the MAF, change the fuel filter, check the fuel pressures if possible to make sure everything is right, and make sure you got enough air in the tires and the brakes aren't dragging.
Unless you have an obvious problem, don't go for the foreign-chemicals in the fuel or intake band-aid
Welcome,
There is nothing you can really do for milage. It is what it is. I suggest change all the fluids(front and rear end, coolant, oil, trans fluid...etc) , plugs, clean the MAF and enjoy her. They say the 5 star tuner is a really good product. I have not done that yet. You will here alot of people talk about exhaust stuff as well. I really do not think anything works as good as the stock product but I was looking at BANKS complete system without their tuner and then get the 5 star instead. I have to contact 5-star to about that set up. Anyway welcome and enjoy.
OHHH YEAA, you will here alot on here "without pictures it did not happen" So lets see some pictures of your new truck OR IT DID NOT HAPPEN!!!!

I wouldn't put that crap in my old garden tractor let alone my trucks.
Make sure the truck is in good tune with fresh fluids and properly inflated tires.
Then start experimenting with add ons.
But the op will find cold air kits and all the other stuff really won't boost mpg.
I have found the biggest increase in mpg comes from driving 55-60mph. Driving 70-80 eats fuel.

You might NAY SAY the use of injector cleaners but it has always worked for me. I have seen gains of .5 to 1.5 mpg after I put this in a tank of fuel.
I have a long history of poo-poo-ing Seafoam, especially the "stick the brake booster vacuum hose into a bucket of Seafoam" method of removing carbon and other crud. That goes for "engine flush" too.

Want to clean the injectors? Then buy some Chevron (Techron) fuel injector cleaner.(Same as Ford sells) Or get Fords kit that hooks up to the fuel rail. Seafoam is one of those "miracles in a bottle" that is supposed to work on everything but in reality usually does more harm than good. I've tried the stuff and was very far from impressed.
I do enjoy watching the "experts" on youtube drenching their engines with seafoam by sucking it up a vaccum line. "Oh it smokes, look at all that carbon the seafoam is removing."
- Plugs and Boots
- Air filter
- Fuel filter
- Clean MAF
- Clean throttle body
- Replace fluids If you don't want to spend the money servicing the diffs at least change the ATF in the transfer case. It only takes two quarts and is easy to change. With only 35k miles mine was dirtier than I thought it would be when I changed it.
In my experience aftermarket intakes, headers, cats, mufflers and etc did not help mpg. Best bet is to drive for mpg and maybe try one of 5 Stars economy tunes which I never tried but he knows what hes doing.
