Another Chip question...

Hey Guys I posted this in the Chips tuner section but didn't get much help, figured I would try the forum that's directly related to my truck, so here goes:

Ive got a 2006 6.0 f350 with Edge juice platinum with attitude,... read through lots of forums about the Edge compared to SCT etc.
I was given the Edge for free, so I figured why not and installed it. ( If I were to buy one it would have been SCT)

My question is, in regards to them being hard on trannys, ..is it only in certain levels ie 4 and higher?
I usually use level 1 or 3, with 100 percent defuel, and the tranny shifts fine and everything feels good ( especially the power )

How come the edge is so bad on the tranny?, all I can usually find is people saying its bad, but I can't realy find the reasoning in regards to why it is bad... is it just because of the extra power?

Ive read that the way the edge makes addtional power is by changing the timing and creating more cylinder pressure which can be bad for the HG, I could be wrong here?, seems to make sense though ,... but in regards to the tranny I am a bit confused.

All in all, I guess I am just wondering, if I should keep it in stock mode and use the gauges, or if I will be OK keeping it in level 3, which seems to feel the best so far driving wise even towing for that matter.

My mods so far : 4 inch mbrp straight pipe, cold air intake. ( no studs )

Any info is always appreciated .. thanks again.

It's because the shift on the fly modules don't really do anything constructive for the transmission tuning and switching up and down doesn't allow the transmission to "learn" the different power levels adequately.

It's not free when you will end up rebuilding your tranny!
My question is, in regards to them being hard on trannys, ..is it only in certain levels ie 4 and higher? No it's hard on the tranny in all levels

How come the edge is so bad on the tranny?, all I can usually find is people saying its bad, but I can't realy find the reasoning in regards to why it is bad... is it just because of the extra power? Because it really dosen't tune anything! The way the Edge (and all other off the self "canned" tunners) get there power is by tricking the computer. Basicly, it intercepts the signals the computer is putting out, and changes them to get the desired result. So the computer really doesn't know what's going on. It kind of like that saying "the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing". This is espcialy hard on the trans mission because it does nothing for the increased line pressure. The way SCT works is a stratagy tune. It acualy changes the programing in the computer. That way everything knows whats going on. Custom tunes are the safest and best way to go when it comes to tunning.

Yes they increase cylinder pressure!
, seems to make sense though ,... but in regards to the tranny I am a bit confused.

I would defently leave it in stock, and just use the edge for gauges, and get an SCT X3 with custom tunes from either Eric at innovative or Matt at Gearhead.

My mods so far : 4 inch mbrp straight pipe, cold air intake. ( no studs ) You should look into getting rid of that CAI and going back to stock. CAI are known to cause problems such as dusting. The stock air box Ford actualy got right! It flows as much or more air than anything on the market, and filters way better. At the point that aftermarket intakes flows more air is way out of the useable HP and Torque range for these trucks. There is no real benifit of AM intakes, other than for bling factor.

Any info is always appreciated .. thanks again.
