My father-in-law has a '77 F-250 Crew Cab shortbed, 4X4. It has a bad motor (400) and weak drivetrain. He wants me to "help" him find a wrecked Super Duty and put his 77 body on the newer frame. I know his has a 155" wheelbase. From my research, a Super Duty CC short box has a 156.2" wheelbase. I would not think this would be an issue. Anyway....am I crazy for even considering this. Any input would be appreciated.
It has been done!!! There is a red 68 f-250 siting on a 2003 frame on youtube and he is pulling low 13's in that bad boy but he also has over 60k tied up in it. The body swap to a newer frame is a ton of work there was a guy on here trying to do it but i think he just gave up.
There will be mechanical AND electrical challenges all along the way. Some like that, some hate it.
I am in the process of upgrading a '71 FJ-55 Landcruiser to mid 90's technology (FI engine, drivetrain, electrics, HVAC, comfort, etc). Should be relatively done and drivable in a couple years...
Get an XL model Superduty without all the frills like power locks/windows/seats and AC, and he'll forget that it's not the '77 in the first hour of driving
Trucks TV has been working on putting a 70's dentside CC body and bed on a Dodge frame over several episodes. You can watch some past episodes and see some of what is involved. A quick simple project it is not but is totally doable.
