I've been searching high and low for the best tires for the driving conditions in which my truck encounters. I live in the high desert near Santa Fe, NM. In the winter there is some snow, some years more than others. Occaasional rain and some very hot summers.
I have just the regular S/T the MAXX must be new. I would go with a 285 if it was me. The winter traction will be much better with a largerr foot print. What kind of price are the coopers.

I was quoted $214 per with lifetime balance, rotation, etc. That's for 235 85 16's
I run Coopers most of the time. Set of Discoverer ATR 285's, they did great through the winter and aren't too bad on mileage either. Back to my Stock BFG Commercials for the summer atm though lol.
I thought $200 plus was a bit nuts. They include balance and rotate but whatever. I'm running 285 BFG KM/2's right now and they are wearing real quick. I thought they would make it through the summer but perhaps not.
As far as tire width, does the wider tires get worse mileage than the pizza cutters?
Idk because I've always had either a 305 or 315. You have to space the bumper out an inch or so or it will rub. 315s hit the inner fender when I hit a big bump.
I love my 285's and didn't notice much of a mileage drop. I still average 17 mixed driving and can get 20+ highway.
I have a set of 235 BFG MT's that I'm going to be running for a while after these wear out and I'll have to see if the mileage is much better. The 235's are on stock steel wheels and my 285's are on aluminum, but the aluminum wheels are too wide to put 235's on.

Are you running the 3.55's I see in your sig? May I ask what your RPM's are at 60 MPH? I'm running right about 2000 at 60 MPH with the 4.10 tree climbers

Yep, I've got the 3.55's.
At 60 I'm only at about 1500 rpm. My speedo is off a little, when the speedo says 55 I'm actually going 58 according to my GPS.
