High Output Alternator?
High Output Alternator?
My camper and its converter sucks the juice when I'm driving down the highway. I run two extra refrigerators, a small refrigerator and a small freezer and I've been going thru the alternators. Seems like I read on here about a high output alternator, does anybody know where to get one?
Here is a link to look up the vehicle.
Ours are a 3G series IIRC.
Another link to 3G options.
I haven't looked at these enough to know whats right or wrong. But it will give you a start.

John, I always thought the ambulance package was a double alternator setup, I don't know.
Thanks alot Pete for the links. Some good reading.
Blake, also thanks for the link. Man, they don't give those babies away.
What is the output of our stock alternators, 140??
This alternator I have now that's on its way out was probably wore out from last summers trip with the camper. This year I added 4 optima batteries to my setup so the demand for juice isn't as bad. I still think I need a bigger one. HAHA

This is the info I have. I would guess 130. The ambulance alternator is a different animal altogether from what I understand.

, but i will buy one once i get my 12 offroad lights and winch, just to try and keep my batteries charged.
Glen, another alternative is the Mean Green alternator. I think they can make it whatever amperage you want:

Haha no, no they dont. But you figure their biggest one puts out a max 270 A, twice what a stock one does. And at idle it puts out 200 A. Im not saying that means it should cost any where near 500 bucks

I read somewhere that the normal draw is pretty low. 75amps comes to mind...so you could load up a bunch of lights or stereo equipment and never push the stock unit. Of course, if you do go bigger, the extra amps don't hurt anything except the wallet.
Check here. 250 Amp for $269.00.
