My 90' Bronco with the ruff running 347 is used for driving on the HWY, towing and off road. Last summer I was fire chasing and ran into a little problem getting away from the fire. It seems I had a little to much faith in my beastly Bronco and was unably to climb my way out of the canyon. Now I have heard of lockers but waht locker would be applicable for the Everyday Guy?

As for lockers there are many companys out there. ARB makes a locker that can be "turned" on and off through the use of compressed air. They are somewhat spendy though and you will need to mount an onboard air compressor. Detroit Lockers have some that are meant for the weekend warrior I would give them a look.
If you want to be able to positively engage and disengage a locker, you will want to look at ARB, Eaton, and Detroit. Obviously, you will need to check on the availability for the Ford 8.8" differential application.
ARB engages via compressed air. This has its advantages since you will have to have an on-board compressor and it can also be used for airing up tires.
Eaton's E-locker utilizes an electro-magnet and a ball-ramp design that has no shift fork to bend or break.
Detroit's Electrac works like the Eaton unit but uses a shift fork and even when disengaged is still a Limited Slip differential. The locker provides a complete and positive engagement.
Auburn, Detroit, Eaton, and several others make automatic lockers but they can, and will, engage at whatever point in time they "think" its necessary. These are fine if you are aware of the possibility of the changes in driving characteristics when the locker engages on say ice or snow on the highway. I won't put an automatic locker in mine just because the wife occassionally drives it in those conditions and the locker engaging can make driving really squirly unless you are ready for it.
