sorry this is a little windy but I've got a 2003 6.0 excursion, I've put 5 new injectors in and cleaned my egr twice now. I tow a 34' camper. While pulling I notice no smoke at all running 60-70 mph, but seems that as soon as I'm not pulling a load it has a steady stream of light black smoke, and an occasional miss, but I have had it hooked up at the dealer twice, it once had egr code, the next time it had two egr codes. but the tech told me to just drive it and if it starts missing and smoking more to change the egr. is this good advice or should I change it now?
Don't know if I should jump in here or not... Oh well, here it goes. I can't speak for Dieselpop, but I recall that the 2005 MY EGR was designed with a larger port so that it didn't clog as bad as the prior model years... Now this is all word of mouth, and a little speculation so bear with me... I would ASSUME that the later model EGR, with the larger port, would also be the replacement part for the earlier 6.0 engines as they had issues with carbon buildup in the EGR, i.e. 2003/2004 MY.
Please don't take this as gospel. I am just trying to give some kind of an answer to you since you are not getting a reply to your question. This speculation is the best I can do. Maybe some of the techs will chime in here soon.
There was something about the latest EGR valve having a pink dot but I don't think that that is still the case. If you need a new EGR valve then buy a new one from a reputable source and you'll be sure to get the right one.
