Help

I need ideas

Truck is in the shop again for milage issues
Ford said nothing is wrong and i must have changed my driving style

I think they are freakin morons

Most of you know my previous issues with these trucks lately
I have had my share of bad luck

But i got the tranny flash and a few weeks later i seen my milage dropping like a rock! I was getting 18.2 now i get 15.2!
Used to regen every 400 miles or so
Now it regens every 100-150

Ford said nothing is wrong that the milage a flucuate and regens can be from 100-500 miles

Am i over bitching about this? I think 15.2 is sad!
Why did it change after months?
I got 15 in Janurary when i never shut the darn truck off an it was on winter blend

I have had lots of trucks and i think i know when something is wrong

Tom,

Your driving style may not have changed but the DPF could be filling a bit more if the DPF is not getting full burn-outs. I've noticed that when I'm towing a bunch, I never get a regen. When I go a few weeks without towing, the 150 mile regen cycle is pretty predictable. Are you doing any driving where you can really heat up the exhaust? I'm beginning to believe that regular city or light highway driving is not really enough to properly clean out the DPF. It's like the active regen cleans it a little, but not as much as high exhaust temps with a regen. The more you can really heat up the exhaust the fewer the regens.

I have to agree that the need to place a heavy load on the engine for an extended period of time is true to get the best performance out of the emissions system. It's an automatic benefit to most of us because we end up towing something fairly heavy on a regular basis but some folks never really get things hot enough driving around unloaded.

Can you drive your truck around and have it function properly, regardless of how you use it? Yes. The question is, what does it take for optimum performance.

You guy's are correct! I drive semi and if we are in the city and not running the truck's hard we start having dpf issue's but as soon as we get them out on the road and pulling grade's and running them hard and hot all dpf issue's go away and you do not even know it is on the truck. I am also finding these same issue's with my superduty, my advice is to get it out and run it hard with a load and reset all your trip meter's and your fuel meter and you will probaly notice an increase in mpg after you run it hard for a while. These truck's are made to work and they do not do well as daily commuter's with dpf and egr this is why I am going to remove them

I was hoping that with the 6.7 things had changed.

With the 6.4 it was very much a hwy/towing motor. City just kills it.

I guess maybe some of the same still applies.

It still applies but isn't as harsh as the 6.4L was.
Although I did have a regen (saw msg) last Wednesday where I almost pulled over to make sure someone didn't steal my 6.7L and put in a 6.4L; truck was surging quite a bit.
I'm down 1+ MPG from this time last year and using more DEF but get it out on the interstate for nearly a tank of fuel and my MPG is almost exact to what it has always been.
City driving is torture; for myself and my truck!

Makes alot of sense

I drive a mix highway, city, dirt, road, pull trailer !

I drive my truck hard, always! People say that i think im a nascar driver

I reset the lie o meter today and drove around a lot, it settled at 15.6

So you guys know, i am a welding technical advisor all i do is drive
From one plant to another all day

I burn a tank every 2 days

Why the change?

I may try a programer soon to fix my trottle lag and see if mileage improves
May help trans shift better.

Which reminds me the trans did the slip thing yesterday first time in a long time
