hey yall,
my 1992 f150 4x4 with 302 and aod is getting tired and has a good amount of blow by. its a really nice truck body wise, if any of you know what michigan trucks look like.
so heres what im looking at, i would like a 351w in my truck due to the more torque that it produces, but everyone says that its best to convert to maf to keep it happy.soo, i picked up a 94 302 with complete engine harness and comp due to being maf. i got what i thought was a really good deal on it, but it was already pulled by a guy that decided against putting it in his jeep, so i did not get to here it run. po said it ran great with no noises, but he was trying to sell it.
my question here is now that i have the harness, should i grab a 351w? is it really any better?
should i just goto the maf 302? is there a way to check compression?
i have heard of a leak down test, but i have never done it. any suggestions?
thanks much,
ryan
The '94 5.0 makes more HP than the motor you have now but the 5.8 has a whole lot more hair on it's chest and will connect directly to the MAF harness you have and run like it was meant to be there. You may have an issue with compatability between the MAF computer and your transmission however.. just depends what trans you have now and what one was in the truck your MAF parts came from. You'll have to run the box code on the MAF EEC to see what it was from.
To check compression you just need to crank the motor over either with the starter or a breaker bar on the crank bolt, and obviously you need a compression tester and the motor needs to be mounted to something like an engine stand.
already looked up the eec-iv code "hug2" and its a 5.0 with aode. i currently have the aod.
i have been told that it will work, just through a code saying trany isnt there, and ive been told it wont work at all. so kinda in the dark there.
There was no AODE in the trucks so I'm gonna guess it was a 4R70w which is related to the AOD and AODE. There are a ton of sensors in that transmission that will all throw codes but most of them can be ignored, the only one that will affect engine operation is the MLPS sensor and to defeat that you just need to wire a resistor between two inputs so not a big deal.
