Stock trans cooler, pulling a small car at hwy speeds and no Tuner. What should the temp be around.

Under 200* is prefered.... over 225* and you will probably want new fluid.

These trucks have tiny tranny coolers.... your best bet if you do a lot/heavy towing is to upgrade, either to an aftermarket or a 6.0 cooler.

Hopefully I will get my 6.0 cooler this summer.

Around 200*. Much more than that look at getting a new cooler or new fluid.

Dont rely on the stock gauge either. Its not a true gauge, it only moves when the trans temp reaches "Benchmark" temps, see pic.

I have a 99 7.3. I added the 6.0 a few months ago and can't say what my temp was before because I added the trans temp gauge at the same time as the 6.0 cooler. There is a major difference in the size of the two coolers. I can say towing my 10,000lb TT in fairly cool weather about 55 degrees outside temp, I did not get over 125 with the new cooler. About 1500 miles with several passes.... What year is your truck? The 99 is the one year they did not route the trans fluid through the radiator, so if you have a 99 I would get a larger cooler. Do you know what your trans temp is now?

Same on my 2000, no cooler into the radiator. I added a Napa Ultra cool tranny cooler and it helped a LOT

I added the OTW radiator to my e99 for extra trans cooling.
Its an inexpensive upgrade, Infact the radiator is only around $250.
