imo all the oem setup does is gum everything up,including aftercoolers and intake tracts.since removing mine a couple years ago my intake tubes are nice, clean, and dry.also theres no oil coming out of any of the boots.
I'll take the semi-contrary opinion here. I have no EGR and no CCV reroute and I've had no problems with anything gunking up. I have, however, seen problems from incorrectly done CCV reroutes that caused engine problems from excess crankcase pressure. Besides that, I hate pulling into a drive-thru with a tail wind and having that stinking mess blowing into the cab and drive-thru window--LOL. I had one and took it back off.
I also have had 0 issues with oil in the intake. If I was popping off boost tubes then I would go with one of the 2 ways to mod the ccv.
But I still like the idea that the oil lubricates the valves.
I think its a great mod if done correctly but like npc said if you do it wrong you can cause problems. Thats why I'm afraid to re-route mine and am just going to leave it alone
Ian,get rid of it!. I am currently in the middle of an oil cooler job and you wouldn't believe the oily goo I'm trying to clean out of the intake.mines been done for two years,so it had five years to accumulate in there.I still have my egr on but you can tell the difference between oil and what the egr puts in there.as for doing it wrong you really cant.do it,you won't regret it for a minute......id have to agree with you misky!.
The egr makes it very bad situation because of the carbon sticks to the oil. I would like to understand the more about the ccv effects with out the egr system and a good air filter.
Didn't change the way it ran, just the absence of oil in the intake is what I was shooting for.
Its right under the drivers seat. No dips where moisture could collect and restrict the hose. Every now and then, if the breeze is just right, I get a whiff of it, its not too bad.
If someone asks me what it smells like I tell them that it smells just like a diesel truck is supposed to smell like.
