My troubles yesterday caused me to lose my window for a ride from the shop. Well I just got a rental from enterprise. After all this is why I have insurance I guess.
After waiting 2 hrs on them to pick me up I had to wait another hour cause they didn't have a car. A car finally came in and I had to take it dirty cause I had to get to work. Worst part its a Focus. Lord this is a world apart from what I'm use to. These seats feel like rollercoaster seats. Been a very long time since I've driven something w/ an auto shifter in the floor.
How do people drive these things?
My wife and I have a 2007 Ford Focus 5spd manual. I love the gas mileage and low maintenance costs. We also have a 2008 Kia Sedona LX that I usually drive everyday. I have learned not to base my self worth/ego in what I drive. That being said, last year leaving a local single A ballgame a guy in a F250 cut in front of me and my family in our Kia Sedona literally pushing us out of the way I wanted to be in my F250 sooo bad that night.
I rented one of those couple months ago when I had troubles with my Superduty and was actually pleasantly surprised. Not only great economy with decent performance, but pretty big trunk with folding rear seats.
I needed to carry couple of 2x12x 10 feet long planks and with rear seats and front passenger seat folded I was able to load them and close the hatch.
Don't think the 3" leg room for rear seats would work for me, but I didn't have passengers.
Heh heh... the Sentra is probably the ultimate "anti-ego" car. But they are still number one on my recommendation list when folks ask "what car should I buy my kid to get them through college and into their first job?".
It's hard to find a lower cost (purchase and operating) or more reliable option. I know of several with 300K+ miles with nothing more than gas, oil, and tires thrown at them every now and then.
I like the Focus. I'll be looking for a new car in a year and it's on my short list since I'm a fan of small, 5 doors with manual transmissions. I have a Mazda Protege5 that looks awful and has 170,000 miles on it but I don't care and I haven't had a car payment in years. Still on the original clutch but the front suspension is need of work (the down side of living in the country with bad roads) but it still runs well and returns a lifetime MPG of 30 (I did stop tracking about 30,000 miles ago but I doubt it changed).

I don't drive a SD or mustang for ego. I actually work my SD. I've loved and collected mustangs all my life. The mustang in most yrs is a small car. There's a few yrs where its large but its roomy and doesn't feel like a rollercoaster. Ill sacrafice the gas for the comfert. I didn't have a ride agsin today but I'm driving my mustang. No I'm not impressed at all with the focus.
Hmmm how much cheaper is the maintance on a focus then a mustang or torus?
I liked the torus. I wanted one for awhile then just forgot about it.
think of it as a rollercoaster/skateboard with a steering wheel. we have a 2005 focus st 2.3 litre 5 speed plenty peppy and 43 per US gallon solid handling quiet ride. when we first needed a car i wasn't too hot on it either but having driven it for a while kind of grew on me. personally i think its better looking than any econo car dodge is selling at the moment. sucks the big one though when you bring in a truck and get a econo car instead. one time i leaned real hard on my dealer to give me a truck ended up with a 3-4 year old 150 with a thirsty 5.4, beat the pee out of it on the winter road
Wife and I rented a Ford Focus type "Diesel" when we were in Ireland for 2 weeks. If they would be available in this country I strongly consider purchasing one.
