59 4x4 that doesn't work whats wrong
I have just purchesed a 59' Ford f100 4x4 and I was out with a group of friends 4wheeling and I got stuck in some mud. I thought I was in 4 low trying to get out but the front wheels weren't spinning. After some shoving and swearing, I decided to try it in 4 high and was able to get out with no problem. I got home the next day and tried to shift it in 4 low without the hubs engaged to see if the front drive shaft was spinning, and it was not. What do you think my problem could be?

with the stock shifter the rear output ingages before the front output in 4-low. Have someone sit in the drivers seat and push the shifter to 4-low while you climb under neath and slowly turn the front drive shaft. you need to make absolutly sure that the front gear slider in the t-case is moving fully into possition. by spining the drive shaft you assure that the slider is not hanging up on a tooth preventing it from engaging.
If it is moving fully, then drain the oil out and pull the PTO/access cover on the DANA 24 t-case and inpsect the internals while engaging the shifters.
