i have a 1994 f250 7.3td, when i have the tranny in od it acts like it is hunting for a gear. it is also the same but not as bad with the od shut off! any help would be great! thanks guys!
There was a post on another diesel site discussing this yesterday...... the fix was a new Neutral safety switch/Manual Lever Position Sensor/Transmission Range Sensor what ever you want to call it.
...................................
It's not just a neutral safety switch. It's new name is Transmission Range Sensor (TRS.) It also tells the computer where you have the shifter. When they start to go bad, and pre-95 TRS OFTEN went bad, they tell the computer you shifted to nuetral. So that's what the computer tells the trans to do.
believe it or not but this stared sunday and now today the od light was blinking, didnt not before, then quit after i shut the truck off! with the light not blinking it still acts up but not as serve!
it is not acting like neutral, it is jump from od to drive back to od and so on, then when i turn off the od it still does it in drive! these do have a lock torque converter right?
go to the local tranny shop and get the codes read. the one here does it for free. That code will tell you exactly what to do as there are hundreds of things that cause that light to blink. With that light blinking you do not want to drive your truck if you do not have to, very bad on the tranny
You will have trouble codes stored. Best bet is to see what they are. You can do a self test where you count the number of flashes on a light or you can buy an Equus 3145 code reader for around $20-$30 which does it all for you. You might also be able to find a shop that has OBD1 code readers to do it.
i have a code scanner here and never had a code before because the light never blinked until today, so i'll check it out cuz it should stay in there as a history code even if the light went off or am i wrong on that?
