two questions......does the adapter coming off the oil cooler to egr cooler lift off of the oil cooler?.tried to get it up and over the cooler outlet port but its kinda stuck.do i have to lift the intake for it to clear the outlet?.also ,is there a way to suck the oil out of the valley before removing the cooler assy?.once you get all the little stuff out of the way this job isnt bad at all.im into it for 2 and a half hours and the intake is ready to come off.

???
There is a small tear shaped cover with 2 bolts in it that will come off and the lower counterpart will slide off the oil cooler as well. Make sure you slide off the lower part before attempting to press the actual cooler out of the top.
The little cover will come off , you need two little pry bars and it will pop right off , you should try it with everything in the way. there is a fat O ring that makes it tight. the oil cooler when you lift it out oil will roll out the back no stoping it , i used my shop vac to suck up the oil as i lifted it out, it not that much but it makes a mess on something that just got cleaned . meaning you need to clean valley before you lift it out . Also leave the little hose on the cover when you pull it , it just slides off the egr pipe, peace out
I cleaned mine fairly well in the valley before pulling the oil cooler davids shop vac trick worked great I went slow pulling and didnt lose a drop off the back side 0 mess
keep it clean they say that ipr screen plugs easy
pulled in the driveway today 4 degree spread when before it was 25-30
Gonna go with delo elc.decided to leave the egr cooler in,instead of doing the delete.with my luck if I delete it ill get inspected, and ill be the example of what happens when you tamper with epa stuff.ill pressure test it to make sure, but It should be fine.I blew out the valley with compressed air and gave it a brakecleen treatment.will pull the intake in the morning.I think the worst part so far was trying to remove that little black plastic piece off of the shroud, the one behind the powerstroke emblem.hope I see 4* spreads like yours,I'm tired of looking at 27-50*.
Square, but its only 2 yrs old.since its been changed I pulled my tt with it once,so I don't think the temps did anything to it yet, also I had no puking going on either.
Whats the purpose of the butterfly in the intake elbow?. I've read that it doesn't do anything, but does anyone know what it wad intended for......just curious.

It was intended to increase air flow thru the egr valve under certain conditions. Believe it was only used on the '04 model year.
