On a recent trip I came across a 2002 F150 Supercrew. I have two questions. 1) It is an XLT, 4X4, with the 5.4. can anyone give me the pros and cons of owning one? 2) The msrp is $33,145. I'm guessing the invoice is around $29,000. With this truck being a holdover, What could be the lowest price I could possibly negotiate before rebates? I need some guidance on this possible purchase.
I bought my supercrew Lariat for just over 30,000 in october 2001 using the X-plan, which is supposed to be 4% over dealer cost. I love the truck, and have had no problems.
However, a 2002 crew leftover is now 7 months old (The 2003 came out in Sept. 02) , so I would want one heck of a discount on it!
Also, the 2004's will be out in Sept 03, and I personally would prefer it for the improved styling, power, and interior improvements.
To answer your question about pricing, I would need to get into the middle 20's. Just my .02 worth. Good luck!
well im pickin up my 03 screw lariat fx4 off road some time this week and its fully loaded and <a href="http://www.motorhaven.com/">sticker</a> is and im payin 33,600 so it being a 02 you should be able to get it too invoice atleast!
If this truck has been sitting around on a lot since it was built, I'd be very leery of it. I can tell you that we tend to have a lot of problems with vehicles that sit. Trucks are designed and built to be driven, not to sit. We're seeing fouled plugs, no-starts, blown O2 sensors, rough idles, weird electrical glitches. This stuff just doesn't happen with "fresh" product. Add in the fact that it's already a year old, that you can buy the same vehicle, same year, with maybe 10,000 miles on it for about $24,000........well, I'd look at a 2003 if you have to have brand-new.
I just got a 2002 Supercrew. Its a Lariat with the bucket seats, with 5.4 Limited Slip with 18500 miles on it for 22000 before taxes. Its a 2 wheel drive. I know a guy that bought a 2001 4x4 like mine for around 23000.
Three weeks ago, I could have bought an 02 F150 XLT supercab 4x4, well equipped with 10K on the clock for $20,500 before taxes from a Ford dealer in Eastern WA state. The rig had the 5.4L engine and auto tranny and was a local trade, not a salvage/flood/auction/fleet vehicle. I could also have had a new 03 (similar options, 4x4, etc) for roughly $23,000 before taxes, maybe $500 more. That price includes the rebate. The new would be in my garage tonight if it were only a few inches shorter
Thank you guys for all of your input. You have giving me a lot to think about. My wife is in favor of the truck, because she thinks we can get a real good deal. I'm still up in the air.
Thanks!
I purchased an '01 SCrew new with 4X4, 5.4, front bench seat, XLT, cloth int. Have had it to the dealer for 1.the bed was misaligned. 2.the key swithc was sticky. 3.LR door latch sticky. and oh yeah for a new radiator(there was a thing of Ford putting the wrong radiator in but thenks to this website I had the info and Ford relented)THANK YOU FTE!
I've got 30K on it now and get about 17mpg consistently since new. No major problems
Being a crewcab the back seat passengers can get in and out without bothering the front seat passengers. visibility for rear passengers is good even for little ones. the bed is kinda short for anything but fence boards. I recommend some kind of step/nerf bar if not already equipped, the 4X4 is a llittle high. This is a good truck. just my thoughts
My dad bought a new 2002 S'crew 4x4 Lariat FX4 at his local dealership in Denver in early August of last year. $25000 before taxes and lisence fees. He only went in to see the trucks, not buy one. They offered him such a great deal, he took it.
I'm pretty sure you can talk them down a few thousand dollars. The economy ain't doing that great.
However, a 2002 crew leftover is now 7 months old (The 2003 came out in Sept. 02) , so I would want one heck of a discount on it!
Where can I find this information? I just purchased a 2003 Supercrew and the sticker on the inside of the door says it was built in 02/08. I told them what I wanted (5.4 engine, the best deal ended up being an FX4 with tow package) and they found it in state (Connecticut).
I bought my 2002 SuperCrew Lariat, 2WD, 5.4L in February 2003.
I got it for around $25k (including rebate) before taxes, etc. That was about 7-8K under sticker.
Dave, was that the second sticker (dealer markup) or the first (factory). I've seen 33K for a 4X 5.4L S'crew after dealer markup in my area. $8K below that would put you at $25K. I know different areas of the country charge different prices... seems a bit steep to ask that high (about $32K) for a 2wd version...
My wife and I went to the dealership and took the truck for a test drive. When the salesman went to start the truck, it would not turn over. He had to jump it. 1956MarkII, you were right on the money. That raised the 1st flag. We examined the interior and it had dog hair all over it! I looked at the body build plate and it was dated 10/01. Overall the truck looked and drove good, but we decided to pass on it. We will wait and order the truck we want. I want to thank everyone who has replied to my question. Thanks for all of the great infomation!
