I bought my wife an IPad 2 for our anniversary. She is very happy with it.
After checking out the reviews of the competition it seems that they are all basically chasing Apple.....and have been. Plus, we are pretty much an IPhone family anyway.
We have 4 of 'em (all ATT) and will upgrade my wife's to the 4s in a couple of weeks. We are pretty happy with it.
I have the 4 right now. Of course, I do not use it to it's fullest potential. The bottom line success for you...or anybody really... will be quality of the carrier you select.
Around here, Sprint is not a big favorite. Which I really hate because Sprint, both directly and indirectly, is a HUGE customer of my wife's company.

It's pretty much the opposite here. Sprint has probably got the best overall coverage in this area. Lots of mountains, hills, valleys, etc. There are about four different areas that have no coverage with any carrier other than Sprint. I switched to them about a year and a half ago after having Nextel for several years. Even after the Sprint / Nextel merger, the Nextel coverage gradually got worse and had gotten to the point that my coverage was beginning to diminish in areas where it had always been excellent.
Since switching over to just a Sprint phone and service, my coverage is outstanding no matter the terrain. I'm really impressed with my HTC phone and the Android platform but I'm liking the iPhone more and more.
my awesome wife got me an ipad for fathers day. at first I thought we might get some use out of it. WE USE THE CRAP OUT OF IT, 95% of our internet time is spent on it. So versitle
