Yesterday I replaced both batteries in my 85 F-350 w/ 460 and went up to the gas station and filled up both tanks. As usually, I flip between the tanks and make sure all is ok.
Well this time is was not. When I select the front tank, the truck evenutally stalls out. It does it whether I am driving or parked and idling. It takes about 1/2 minute from the time I switch to the front tank.
The rear tank does not cause the issue above. Last year, we barely put 200 miles on her. I am wondering what I should check first or is ther anything I can check in my own driveway re: pumps? or is it possible fillling up the almost empty front tank at the gas sation caused me to stir up sediment in the tank perhaps (it sat almost for approx 1 yr w/o being driven - but I did start it up weekly)
If you have a means of checking fuel pressure, that'll tell you whether or not there's a pump/sediment/filter issue, or if it's a bad gas issue.
I'd bet the front pump is dead or blocked somehow.
Thanks for the reply. I am just trying to find a place to start. The good thing is that the truck runs fine on the rear tank and I filled up the tanks w/ the same gas. I do not have the equipment to test the fuel pressure, but I think my neighbor does. I'll see if he can help me w/ that procedure.
Are the pumps the same thing as the sending units in the tank? (I have no idea)

The 460, in your year range, uses the Hot Fuel Handling system simular to the EFI system. The Fuel Pump is part of the sending unit as mentioned above.
I would check the fuel pump for the front tank, and wiring. Then the wiring to the mode switch, and the selector valve, if the pump is determined to be good.
