So a quick run down. I have been talking to several of you about what kind of setup I should do. I have a 69 f100 4x4, Inline 6 with a np435 trans and NP21 Tcase. I have been told by many to look into the np205 since I want to put my FE engine and C6 tranny in. But I was in a Junkyard on saturday and found a 69 f250 with a FE, I am assuming the np435 due to it being a 4-speed, But I could not find any tags on it. and it had an NP24 tcase in it. Would it be worth it swapping to my FE engine, and taking the divorced np24 tcase from the truck, or should I keep hunting till I find a NP205? I can get the Np24 for about $60, granted I would have to rebuild it.
I have a 68 f250 4x4 and mine has the 24 in it. The 205 has a better 4lo gear and is much easier to find parts for. The 24 and 205 are very similar but for some reason the 24 is being phased out and very hard to find replacement or aftermarket parts for.
i agree with what dragon said i have a dana 24 in my 71 f250 crew cab and am redoing alot of the drivetrain they are both good t cases and are both about the same strength except the 24 is harder to find parts for i'll be keeping my d24 t case unless i can find a np205 for cheap
You would be miles ahead to find a later NP435 or T18 that used a mated transfer case. All Ford transfer cases from the late 70s to now have a 31spline input and the same bolt pattern, so your selection ranges from NP205s to BW1356 to the Super Duty BW4406.
So, now I am getting contradicitng ideas. Is it better to have a married or divorced tcase? I would like to go with a c6 or better equivilant that will bolt up to a F.E. engine. The main reason I would like to go with a C6 is that I have 2 lying around not doing anything... I will take what ever suggestions that you have as to what I should look into getting. But I would like what year/models that I should look for. I am open to any ideas but I do not want to go to far out of the way to make something work. I do want to improve the setup that I have that is why I am using the F.E engine. But I do have to keep the fiance happy about how much money/time I give to the truck compared to her...
Well, if you have the short tail C6 then it would cheaper to go with the divorced setup. If you only have long tail C6s, though, the cost would be about the same to go with either the transfer case mount or the short output housing as the transmission would have to come apart in either case, but the mated case would be cheaper since there is no need for an intermediate driveshaft.
I agree with crazed bronco as im going to keep my 24 unless i come across a 205 for the right price. The issue im having is im trying to upgrade the yokes so i can run a bigger ujoint but i cant find yokes for the 24.
