I am going to buy a 95 f-150 with a 351w and an auto. What are the stock power ratings and what are th ebest mods for this engine.
351w mods
Best mods... depends on the money you have to spend. Cheap mods with the best performance? Headers, Electric fan, exhaust system. More expensive mods? Heads, supercharger, gears. What are you looking to do/get out of the 351w? Torque or HP? There are a lot of mods for a truck, some work some are junk.
Stock power depends on year. Most are around 215HP and 305ft/lbs Torque.

Well Id prefer more torque but it looks like the engine really needs some more hp. I read about putting a k@n in the stock box and wrapping the tubes with heat shield, is that better than buying a complete fipk system and has anyone tried that tornado thing? The truck I might be getting has 131,000 but they say it runns great but what changes should I make to get some lost power besides a tune-up?The engine is a 95 so what are the power ratings?

'95 has 215 HP and 325 ft/lbs TQ. K&N will give you minimal increase. The electric fan will free up 10-15 HP. Headers should be around 5-10HP. Exhaust may get you 10-15HP. MSD ignition could give you some. Heads will usually give you 20-30 HP (depending on the heads). Cam will do just about the same. But you will be limited if you have speed density. To tell if you have speed density, look under the hood towards the air filter. If there is a silver/black sensor between the air filter and the throttle body you have mass air. If nothing but the two hoses, you have speed density. Mass air will calibrate the increased air that heads and a cam will get you. Speed density will not.
I am not sure what "tornado" thing you are talking about, but if it is that thing you put inside the intake hoses, my opinion is that it is junk.

Check on your local smog laws. Although not highly recommended by tree huggers, deleting the cats completely frees up a noticeable amount of "free" HP. I wouldn't bother with the high flow cats if they are much over 100 dollars. In my opinion there isn't enough restriction to bother with lightening your back pocket several hundred.

Anything you can do to unchoke your truck the more power and MPG you will get.
Start with:
A good tune up: plugs, wires, rotor, fuel filter, O2 sensor, etc
High flow cat and a cat back. Dynomax and Magnaflow flow a ton and are fairly quiet. A high flow cat shouldn't cost you more than $75. Look around online for good deals
A set of underdrive pullies. Cheap power. That is what you want. About $100. Get the 3 pulley one with a 1.75" alternator pulley for an almost identical idle charge.
Bump timing (up to 14* w/ 93 oct) and drop fuel pressure to about 40-41lbs via an adjustable regulator
A drop in K&N won't do much as the stock air hole is about 2" x 5". I have a FIPK on mine and it works better. Sure you pickup heat at idle but when cruising it drops to ambient. And the WOT sound is much better.
or be ghetto and cut the bottom of the stock air box off.
Shorty headers are okay but I prefer long tubes as they make more torque. For a cheap increase, get a used set of stock 5.0 Mustang headers and a Y-pipe fabed up. Nice increase in power over those bricks er...manifolds. Besides you can sell them for about $75 if not cracked! And you can run 2.25" pipes to a 3" collector to a 3" cat to a 3" muffler for more power! If you do this put your O2 sensor on the drivers side bank as it runs leaner than the passanger side one.
Get a 94+ Mustang GT electric fan used for about $50-75. A Hayden adjustbale thermostat kit with A/C relay is another $40. It will suck about 3000 cfm on low speed or 3500 cfm on high!
An MSD 6AL and coil helped smooth out my idle and looks nice.
Hope that helps as your truck will run a hell of a lot better!

Where can you sell a set of stock manifolds for $75? I have a set off my 1995 351w that I am taking to the dump this weekend because I couldn't give them away on EBay.
I personally would not use long tube headers, just because of the amount of work involved in getting them installed. It is not a direct bolt in. You would have to cut and reweld pipes. Not worth it if you ask me.
Try the tune-up, electric fan and the filter. You should notice an increase in performance.

thanx a lot for the replies. Would a bigger throttle body be worth it with a few other bolt-ons? Where can I find a direct fit electric fan. I wasnt thinking of using pulleys cause I will probally have a sound system installed and I have a set on my mustang and the idle amps do tend to drop a little and with a system Im afraid they will really drop.

If you get the smaller alternator pulley (1.75") full charge is at 700rpm. You have a 130A alternator and makes about 40-55amps at idle. I don't know how big of a stereo you are talking but... I have a PPI A200 (50x2) amp running my door speakers, and just the Pioneer Premier headunit running the rear fill. I also have an MSD 6AL and coil with the headlights on and the A/C on high I have a 130A in my F-150 and there is a slight undercharge b/c I have a big 2.25" alternator pulley. Once I drop to the smaller one I should be fine. It will charge like stock.
Using Long Tubes is like adding Mustang shorties, all you have to do is get someone to fab up collector pipes. Not nearly as much work as you think, a muffler shop can do that within an hour. Shorties add about 10rwhp good LTs are close to 20. I'd spend an extra $150 for more HP and way more low end torque...which is what the initial poster was looking for.
I sold my manifolds for $75 to someone on this board. They are like $200 ea/new. Post them up in the for sale forum, you'd be suprised. They crack easily. Granted mine were for a 302.
A bigger TB isn't worth the money with a stock intake manifold and junk cylinder heads. You will just allow more air into a restriction. The $300 can be spent better.
You may want to look at a 75mm Pro Flow MAF meter for a bit more power too.
Tune up, fan, and drop in K&N won't make a huge difference. It will be just a bit better than stock (maybe 10rwhp more than stock). Start with my list and go from there. An exhaust made probably the biggest difference by far.

thanx hitman. Do the 5.0 mustang aftermarket heads and intakes fit on this engine? Also if I use long tubes I would have to get the y pipe custom made right and what bout the cats for it?

panteramatt... do you listen to the band Pantera or something? I do and I have to support the local bands in North Texas!
Heads yes, intake no.
Edelbrock is the only company who makes a 351w EFI truck intake, it is about $500 from what I remember. If you got that and a used set of GT-40 irons ($350 tops), get then gasket matched ($100 or so), man you will REALLY wake up that 351W. I'd say at least 30-45rwhp.
If you did that, a larger TB will work too.
With any headers other than stock replacments on the 2" headpipes you will need a new y-pipe made. You could go 2.25" piping for just a bolt on ride or a 2.5" piping if you do heads/intake for more flow. Run that to a single highflow 3" in and out cat. The two on there are a precat and a main cat. From the cat run to a 3" inlet muffler. The longer the case the quieter it will be.
If you have the heads off, I would put in a cam too. Everything is off already. Something like a 208/214 or a 214/220 on a 114lsa would be nice as it will be computer friendly and no wuss powerband anymore.

Man HITMAN you surely know your windsors! Thanx for a point in the right direction now I guess the only thing left to do is buy the truck. And YES I do live for Pantera even though they are gonna break up.

I know useless info. Chances are I have been there and done that with small Fords. There are others who know a ton more than me, I just look for the quickest and cheapest way to get more power.
Oh, and if your truck was breathing easy, you will see an increase in MPG if you can stay off the gas.
I'd say for about $1000-1200 you can get your truck running far better than Ford could have possible imagined.
This guy I knew years ago back when I was in high school lived down the street from Vinnie Paul! I first heard some song by them in the mid 90's and have been hooked since. I have seen them in concert 4 times (once at Ozzfest) at the former Coca-Cola Starplex now Smirnoff place. When did you hear about them breaking up?

Dude I know EVERYTHING about Pantera and fords in general. I have evry magazine article about them and go on their websire from time to time. Phil and Rex apparently are being real *********s and since their playing with Down and Phil with so many other bands, thery just dont talk to the brothers any more. But dont worry, Vinnie and Dime are starting another band with Country singer David Allen Coe called Rebel vs Rebel and another band which at the moment I forget what its called but I believe Judest Priests old Guitarest is the singer.
