After pulling this 28' enclosed trailer with 2 atv's, six dirtbikes and all kinds of camping gear along with about 1/3 cord of wood in the bed i am getting a lot of play in my gear shifter while it is in gear. What would cause this. Also how do i recharge my a/c, can i just get one of those cans of R134 from walmart and plug it in?

Dude I am diggin that truck. Mine is that same truck, just a black '93. I love it! Ok, a/c yes you can just add some, but the proper way to do it is to have it vacuumed and dye checked for leaks. It is low of freon for a reason. Fix that reason so you don't waste money putting freon in all the time. So find a friend that can do a/c work or take it to a shop. No sense in halfassing things. As far as the shifter being loose, well mine is loose too but it just depends on "how" loose you are talking about. The plastic busing in the shifter on the top loader is wore out on mine. IDK about yours.
First thing I would do is to pull out the screws that hold the shifter boot down. Pull that back and see if the bolts the hold the shift lever onto the shifter stub are loose.
While under there, pull out any insulation thats there and check the bolts that hold the shifter stub to the shift tower, and the shift tower to the top of the transmission.
If those are all tight, and its still flopping all over, you have a problem....
There are also two plastic bushing things inside the shift tower that might cause the floppiness. Other than that, something wore out inside.
I will check for loose bolts this afternoon as it is pouring outside so no work for me. I need to change the fluid so this will be a good time for that to.
If you've haven't already gotten to the fluid change, a much easier way to get it in is from the top. Drain it out like normal, then pull off the shifter stub and pour the ATF in from there. Much easier than trying to pour or pump it in through the fill hole.
Yes that is why i was going to do it while i had the shifter taken apart. now i have more problems. I popped my hood earlier to find antifreeze sprayed on top of the motor. I have not noticed any under the truck. What are possible spots for this to be leaking from. I started the truck and investigated and good not locate a leak. the cap to the rad looked slighty wet around the threads and to the top of the rad so i am wondering if i have a bad cap.
