Hey everyone, my F100 has a little bit of slop in the steering and i can really tell when i get up to speed. its not because of the "rag" joint, because i can see that the play is in the steering box. I also see that there is what looks to be an adjustment screw and lock nut on top of the box. Any ideas? thanks.
If it is indeed the gearbox, I recommend having it rebuilt by someone like Redhead Steering gear in Seattle. Like NumberDummy says, messing with the adjustment screw is only going to make it worse.
I know its been awhile but i figured out that there isn't any actual play in the steering. Its actually just the fact that the steering is tight. Meaning if im in a curve and release the wheel it stays turned, it doesn't return to center. that's why it seems like im fighting it at higher speeds. any ideas?
They king pins may be frozen, had this problem on my 65 SWB plus I've got a 76 F100
4X2 donor truck in my shop right now with both pins froze up solid. Will not turn at all. You may have to tear them down and replace pins. Good a time as any to install 73-79 spindles with disc brakes.
had this problem in a 69 ranger replaced the drag link after finding slack there and it helped but did not completely fix the problem. I agree with number dummy could be a combination of things.
