'00 Diesel eXcursion, but I don't think that matters.
My emergency brake light won't go off. I know it is something to do with the pedal as the brakes and fluid are fine. But a much larger clue is the fact that I can jiggle the emergency pedal pedal just a tiny bit and the light will flicker on/off--sometimes for several minutes. Other times I can depress the emergency brake a single click and the light will go off, or maybe not. Sometimes just putting the emergency brake pedal down and let it snap up will make the light go out.
Ultimately though, it comes back on. I don't care if I have to snip/jump the wire to go out.
I got up and looked under the dash. I cannot seem to find the switch that this pedal activates. Any help, with pics, would be much appreciated.
There is a little white pressure switch that turns the light on when the petal is pressed. You are going to have to figure out if its the physical petal/switch causing th elight to come on or something actualyl wrong with the brakes.
Sounds to me like th epressure switch is going bad OR the spring on the petal itself isn't holding the petal firm enough against the switch.
I was having a problem with the switch on the parking brake not wanting to stay in place. It would cause the light not to come on when I put down the parking brake, or stay on when I released it, etc. I don't really know how I fixed it but I kept putting it back in place and it finally stayed there.
If can get your head down there and look at it, you'll see how the switch works. It's just a button switch that the parking brake arm pushes in. The switch could be bad, or it could be loose or not attached properly.
Is this the switch? The tab (marked in yellow) seem to be ripe for a electrical conection. But I have never seen one on there, and there was not one there when I went out to for these pictures-- and I can get the light to flicker.
Brakes were done about 10k ago (no towing during that time and fluid is fine.
Yup, thats it. I cant remember what the connector looks like, But I can get some pics of mine tonight for you, if you want.
@ToMang07 - YES! PLEASE! And if you could do a quick trace of the general direction the wire runs to would be great.
I am so confused... So I am looking under the dash for a rouge wire and cannot find one. My wife comes, home, she looks, nadda.
Well we are going to do something this afternoon so I button everything but the dash panel back up and pop the emergency brake. Emergency Brake Light goes out. Fiddle with the pedal, stays out. Push down and light comes out. Pop-- light goes off. Look and nothing is touching that switch. Put the panel back on and it's good for now.
This has happened before. I am 100% sure it will come back on within miles.
What's most confusing is THERE IS NO WIRE ATTACHED.
Ok, will do tonight. I get home around 10:15, I'll do that the soon as I get home and into the garage. I have a pretty good camera, too. We'll get ya starightened out.
I need to pull mine apart anyway...maybe tonight is the night!

I appreciate it. I have tomorrow off... so anytime, even in the AM, is fine with me.
Between the help of all of you I was able to fix the issue.
I found the "lost" wire. Interestingly, the end of my connector does not look like TreySpooner65. But knowing where it was coming from was pretty much the key here. I could justbarely see the wire through a small hole that almost made the wire appear to be for something else and was running behind the kick panel. Once attached, I found it a bit loose, but I will tighten it up tomorrow and make sure it doesn't fall off. How it did the first time I have no idea as it is above the e-brake pedal and impossible to accidentally hit.
I still find it a bit strange that by messing with the pedal, engaging it one click, or shaking it side to side, it would sometimes make the light go off for a little while. The bare connector was nowhere near this area.
I have cruise control again!
Anyway, thanks again all. And here is a picture mine for future forum searches.

Looks to me like your connector just lost its black plastic cover to prevent stray wires from contacting the metal. No biggie though, wrap it in electrical tape and call it good
