Thought maybe so. Mine was under the dash plus a hydraulic line for the brakes. Removed it as well. Just some of the many, many things needed to clean it up.

The body tag. No wonder 235's look so beefy on these rims!

That would explain it. According to their certification plates, my '82 F150 Explorer came w/215's on 5.5" rims while my '82 Lariat came with 235's on 7.0" rims. I was given an ugly set of 8" wide aluminum wheels (see my refinishing how-to) that I refinished. When I carried them into the tire shop to get the expected 235's my friend said I should go with a wider tire. So, I'm running 30x9.5's and I love them.
