i changed my fuel filter yesterday and found that it was near black in colour, i have noticed that i use about 1-2 litres of oil inbetween changes so i think i have a bad oring on a injector.
is it bad to be driving it while like this or doesnt it matter as long as i keep the oil full.
im asking this cause i am going away next weekend and will be doing about 1000kms or so and wont have time before to repair it.
i have done some research and figured that if im going to the trouble of replacing the orings then i should up the size of the injectors while there,
i was thinking of stage 1 injectors, a terminator pump and while im in there a B/B turbo so i only have to hassle jody once for a tune change.
does what i have picked here sound ok.
input much appreciated..
cheers

I agree with Alvin. How long ago did you change the filter? You can get algae right from the supplier. Do you have fuel in the oil or coolant tank? If not your probably okay. Now for the up grades. Your right on there. Just what I would want, I just don't like the wine of the bb turbo all the time, when towing to. You will be very happy with those changes if you go that route. Heck its a good excuse. Make the call, Clay will be very happy to help. Chet
Make the pump the T500 or dual terminator.
A lot of the black color can come from the fuel being oxidized. If there is any black colored algae, you can tell easily because it will feel sort of slick and snotty to the touch. If it is embedded into the filter and it just feels like fuel, then it is most likely due to oxidation which happens when the excess portion of the fuel gets heated in the heads and then returned to the tank. Portions of fuel which get repeated heating cycles will oxidize over time and will darken the filter element over time. The quality of your fuel source can definitely affect the potential for oxidation depending upon which and how much fuel additives are being used in their supply line. There are some good quality aftermarket additives which can work to improve your cetane, increase fuel lubricity, and reduce oxidation potential.
As for your oil consumption, about 1 quart per 3,000 mils would be normal. If you have any oil leaking at all, that could explain the excess consumption between changes.
When getting a new fuel filter, I would stay away from Fram. Also, do not get one of the filters which has the fuel filter bowl cap built onto it... they have a rep for leaking. Best filters are either Motorcraft direct replacements or replacements by Racor (ho makes the Motorcraft elements).
ok cool i didnt realise that can be normal, the outer gause stuff on the filter was a bit slimmy.
i only get the filter replacement with out the cap, it is aftermarket but over here ford want $140 bucks for there filter compared to $25 for the aftermaket one so far have not had a problem with leaking.
well i will keep an eye on it all and might talk to clay in the near future about the upgrades..

gday mate
no oil in the water or fuel in the oil,
yeah i thought that would be a good excuse to tell the missus why i have to spend some money LOL.
you talk about different pumps is the terminator not that good or are these ones bigger again...
i had the exact same problem...it was a bad o-ring or numerous ones...reason i know, i changed the filter and it was black, checked it 100 miles later and black again. we..NEST guys and gal and some great west coasters changed the o-rings. not a hard job at all...a little time consuming...but relatively easy. i soaked all the injectors in DK as they came out of the truck. i also used parker o-ring lube before putting them in. the truck actually runs much smoother and my idle fluctuation went away. i used about 3 quarts of oil per 4000 miles. not a huge loss, but a loss never the less. i tried the algea killer stuff and it didnt change the filter color. just checked the filter today after about 500 miles...clean as when i put it in after the new o-rings. hope this helps...we didnt take any pics of the install, but i could walk you thru it very easily...let me know if i can help.
good luck
ok cool chris
i will check my filter when i get back from my trip next week and see what it looks like.
hopefully its clean but i have a funny feeling it wont be...
cheers mate

I'd go stage II single shots and IIRC, he will give you a free reburn if you get the injectors from him
