HELP-400 roller lifters
HELP-400 roller lifters
OK, I've got a 400 that's being built into a short block for me. The problem is the roller lifters. I want to use the "spider" hold down but the machinest says it won't work as the lifter bores are too far apart and there isn't enough meat in the liftr valley to mount it. What are you guys using?? My first thought is he may be using a 302 set. Is my thinking wrong or am I just fooling myself? The reason I want this set-up is the cost of the lifters against the use I'll be putting the engine to. NO reving above 5500 rpm. ANY help or advice is more than appreciated. John
unless you've got a mongrel block of some description that has been machined/cast funny, the fitter/turner in me would think it should fit. Lifter spacing between all the clevelands are theoriticaly identical, and if our 400 guru Tim Meyer says a 5.0 model will fit I'd believe him. Where is the spider frame touching? surely if it is touching somewhere a little judicial fettling on the lifter frame would help. Once it's in and bolted it doesn't matter if it does just touch.
TMI could you live up to your name and err on the side of too much info please. I am dumb and will eventually need to be putting hydraulic roller lifters into a mild performance daily driven 400m. If you could specify exactly how and what parts allow the 5.0 system to work that would be great. I don't even know whether your saying the 5.0 parts fit a 400m or not at this point. This is one of those topics id love to see in that sticky thread I brought up as it will become much more important with oil going to crap (no zinc).
EDIT: what are these? http://www.maxspeedingrods-store.com...L-FOD-302P.htm doesn't that bar between them prevent them from rotating and remove the need for the spider? Any input on these? For the price they seem to be the answer, though I have no idea how you would choose the proper roller profile cam to go with them.
