your tips have been great thru our time of tranny crisis.
The latest is.
We are changing the E4OD out ourselves. We are retired military and have access to our local Marines Military Base "do it yourself" auto shop, with lots of eager young muscle Marine assistants, and tools, & BIG GUN LIFTS!
We like to plan, so the current Q's are.
??? Cleaning the lines & cooler out. Aerosol Spray?
??? Adding the Derail fan cooler to the current stock cooler & radiator?
??? Bypass the current stock cooler & radiator & just use the new electric fan cooler? because you will never get the stock cooler clear of crud anyway?
We have located 3 E4OD wrecking yard tannys, $675, $650 & $600 with the $600 one being from the nearest, most reputable, has a 90 day warranty, & also a truck salvage yard
??? Making sure the Torque Converter on the junked tranny is Heavy Duty? How?
The plan is to plan ahead and get this done with minimal delay.
??? special tools?
??? other tips for the rookie Bob & Sofi tranny changeout team?
Ok, we have pulled the E4OD transmission today DIY (do it yourself), and are changing it out tomorrow. So far, the un-anticipated extras are, we needed a new rear gasket, and the 4 torque converter to flywheel nuts (pic taken today!)
If you're going to spend $600 just have it rebuilt, dont take it to one of these 'modern'
tranny shops like AAMco they'll to expensive, but find an old mom and pop tranny shop thats been
doing it for 30-40 years.
