How often would they fail. We get alot of hummimg inside the vehicle and am wondering if the wheel bearibgs, possibly rear, could be going or are running dry.
Should be checked but it's more likely the tires causing the hummmmmmm, wheel bearings typically squeek and by then it's almost too late- the wheel should be about ready to fall off!
Bad wheel bearings make a rumbling sound. A good test is to steer very slightly side to side both ways (or go around a gradual curve) while traveling at about 30 MPH. If the sound disappears while you are steering you most likely have bad wheel bearings. The bearings are actually two sets of ***** in one race and steering either puts pressure on the bad set or removes it. This trick probably wont work so well if both of your front wheel bearings are bad. If they are bad enough, you can jack it up and feel the play. Been there, done that, twice on one side and three times on the other (132,000 miles)
well nothing wrong with the bearings must be the cheap tired on it. And BTW do these little Escapes actually need the SUV tire or can I put regular CAR tires. I'm figuring that might have something to do with the humming
Jeff D, you can put any kind of tire on that you want without problems. You may find that passenger tires with less aggressive tread are quieter and get better gas mileage. It all has to do with fitting the aspect ratio and wheel diameter properly. If you only get two of the same size, make sure you put them on the same axle.
