Unhappy c-6 and 8.8 wanna change gears in rear end

i have a 92 f150 with a 4x4 c6 3spd and a 8.8 rear they work fine but i want something more torquey off the line... I go to the local mud holes and attempted to put my cousin out (a chevy of course lol) and the 4wd would even spin a tire in the dirt and the 2wd would spin a tire but it was struggling to even do that, much less easly pull him out with out snatching hard! Any ideas on what gears for the rear end will help with this?
Thanks.

you probably have 3.08's.it's an economy gear but a total slug.
the easiest and cheapest way to solve this is to head to your local salvage yard for a whole rear axle with 3.55's.you'll need new U-bolts and an afternoon wrenching then she'll feel like a truck.
with just a C6 though, you'll likely take a 2-3mpg hit-depending on your average speed, but this will solve your issues.
unless of course your running w/a lift an larger than 31" tires? if not, that will make ya smile.

My 89 F150 2wd is C6/3.55 and it's a pig on gas.... I average 14mpg mix city highway.

But I just burnt an entire tank on the highway, got 16mpg out of that one! Driving all the time at 55mph though.

Post up the axle code from the door post, someone here will tell you what you have in there now. You need to find out for sure and decide what gears you want to go with before you start throwing the $$$$ at it.. Remember you need 2 axle gear changes since you said it it is 4X4..

To be able to turn 38s you need alot of gear and motor , not sure what motor you have ?? but you will need something around 5.13 gears....Lew

X2....that is such a small change you would not notice much, if any, difference in performance. With those 38s you will need 4.88s just to get back to where you started from with factory height tires.

well remember the front needs the same gears as the back. get some 5.13-5.38 gears, you will need a new front carrier due to the D44 having a carrier break at 3.92 and down. as for setting the gears up i recommend calling around and getting some quotes at a shop. gear setup requires special tools and skill and if not done properly can turn all that money and effort into a pile of worthless steel.

going with this gear change will make your rig into a beast both onroad and offroad. You wont be disappointed
