Has anyone found a switch from a newer year truck that enables these old trucks to have wiper delay. Hopefully something that will still use the original ****. Redoing the plug for wiring would be OK.
Thanks
Martin
John,
If its not to long and drawn out, could you post some info about it. I hate having to turn my switch ON and OFF when its only sprinkling, and we get a lot of it down here. I've seen delay boxes sold in JC-Whitney, but dang!, I don't want no ugly box mounted under my dash
You can use the switch/delay box from any year 73-86. The **** shaft is a little longer but it can be shortened and will accept the earlier ****. As for wiring, they all match the dash harness except for the later ones where you have to move one wire in the plug to make the washer work.
Matt, As some of you know I am a big advocate of buying your donor truck for upgrades to the older trucks. When I strip one I go all the way. I wanted the two speed wiper, so I started there. I found that both systems use the single power wire. I got the two speed working and later found out that all you have to do for the delay, is unplug the two speed switch and plug in the delay switch in the same socket, tie the ground wire and it is ready to go. As noted the switch shaft is longer, but works. I have heard that about any delay switch from many trucks & cars will work but can't verify.
The single speed switch has a different socket configuration than the two speed. Good luck on the hunting, with warm weather coming, a day of yarding with a bud can be a beautiful thing.
Its always warm down here in Southern Texas, but dry is another thing. Gotta wait till the mud ain't knee deep to go lookin. Glad my truck spent most of its life in Kansas, or there'd be nothin left.
I sent a message to Mike and also wanted to ask here. I got the wiper switch a described, but it does not work properly. Was I supposed to get a box with the switch also???
What do you mean it doesn't work properly?
I had a factory delay switch in my `84 F-150. you turned it clockwise from the OFF position and you had two positions, slow & fast. when you turned it counter-clockwise it delayed..the further you turned it, the more the delay and visa-versa. does your switch not work like this?
Hi Martin. I guess you've picked up the timer box by now. Just install it straight up between the switch and the harness. The wipers and delay should work fine if the box is good. If your washer doesn't work, compare the wires in the plug from the box to the dash harness. You'll find one wire doesn't line up with the truck plug so you'll want to move one wire in the box plug to match it. I can't remember which color it is off hand.
All Right!!! I got the box in an it works great. Funny how it works better with all the parts These were a must have here in the drizzle state of Washington. Thanks for all the replies and help. Now on to my next quest...Headlights and running lamps...
I will be posting a thread for this question under the above name.
Once again thanks to all for the help.
