i picked up a 7.3 with a hypermax turbo on it. how much blowby is normal when you pull out the breather pipe in the valvecover?.. its in the valvecover now because of the turbo.
also, its smoking out the exhaust when you rev it and hold it. it misfires then smokes.. when it doesnt misfire it doesnt smoke. im hoping its the injectors and injection pump.
Blowby is normal. it shouldnt come out in puffs but a steady stream. personally, my 84 has no blowby because of the recent complete rebuild it had done. The smoke, what color is it? if its black then your IP might be turned up a bit too much, if its misfiring with grey smoke, you got an IP/Injector problem.
Whats the spraying hitting the ground, cant quite tell lol cause im a little blind right now.
I studied that video a little closer with the help of a friend, he says it was greyish white smoke, sounds like a IP issue because if it was burning oil, it would be blue smoke.
Ray, try removing your fuel filter, dumping out the diesel and filling it with Diesel Kleen (comes in a gray bottle, available at your parts store) and put it back on. Start it and run in for a few seconds (not sure what the official time frame is, but you want the injection pump and injectors full of diesel kleen) then shut it off and let it sit for a few hours (overnight would be better).
i am slightly color deficient but damn if that doesnt look blue and mirror a CDR valve issue. Have you pulled it off and cleaned it? What does the inside of the intake look like, all fouled black i bet. Also what the hell happened to the front of the motor? the cooling fan is destroyed. Did this come from a JY?
anyone feel like doing a comparo on their truck for me? maybe someone with a fresh engine? id hate to put this in the truck if it needs a rebuild. im not sure what normal is with these engines
cant use my truck because there is no blow-by cause it was freshly rebuilt, i would try having my buddy logan get the 86 started but it needs quite a few things for that to happen. I will say this bout the CDR: You need to soak it in something like white gas or kerosene to break up all the soot and oily crap in there, then throw it back on....the CDR valve controls crankcase pressure and takes the oil mist that these engines produce and puts it back in the engine....that has to be in working order for the engine not to burn that oily mist that is in passes the intake into the combustion chamber.
