Your oldest memory...

What is the oldest memory you have of a ford truck...

(Please always keep this thread open)

* I'm still thinking back. I remember in the seventies; Greasers liked F100's a lot
("GREASER" was a fifties and hotrod thing. In Maryland at that time you were a Freak, Greaser, Jock, Geek, or some combination)

1952, I was 8 years old. My mom would drive us four boys around in the bed of the truck. Try that now. LOL When she would come upon a traffic signal, as she slowed down enough I used to jump out of the bed and stand on the running board. When she got even slower I would step off the running board and run along side of the truck.

I remember once I took a wide step and the back wheel ran over my foot. Didn't hurt' and I was able to catch back up and jump back in.

When I was a kid my oldest brother bought a brown 1983 Ranger. He installed a CB, air horns, built a cool in-bed storage with drawers to hold tools, put on a bed cap, and lit her up like a Christmas tree. I loved driving with him, especially when he'd let me pull the air horn chain and let her scream BWAAAHH BWAAAHH! He'd always ask me what kind of truck I was going to get when I got older and of course it was going to be a Ford truck, just like him. And here I am now...

I'm trying to think when I first became aware of "TRUCKS" as a "COOL" thing...

I think it was vans in the seventies that did that for me! Possibly the sixties...

I was TEN in 1968. In the early seventies they changed the whole front end of the Econoline series, the day of the "CRUISING BEDROOM" had arrived...

Plastic bubble windows on the top and sides in any size or shape you wanted

There were extended vans that were like short RV's! They had a back bedroom, livingroom, and a drivers office.

* Taller and wider versions WERE made into RV's

HERE'S the catch: gas was around fifty cents a gallon!

At the time you could afford to drive a monster like that anywhere and not think about it much!

At about 12-13 yrs old......My Dad was a hard core Chevy truck guy, after suffering through 3 trans failures and a AC system failure on the warranty of his new Chevy 1500, he drove it over to the Ford lot and test drove a brand new F-250...............I never saw that Chevy again, nor has one ever darkened his driveway since. He is now a real hard core Ford guy.

The earliest distinct memory of a Ford is riding in my dad's '59 F350. My dad was driving, I was riding in the middle and my older sister was sitting by the passenger door, and when my dad got out of the pickup for something I pulled the hand parking brake lever that stuck out of the floor by the gear shift, and then laughed at him when he killed it trying to drive off. I don't know how old I was but I think it was before I started school.

I still see that old Ford driving around once in a while, if I could figure out who owns it I would try to buy it. I can almost smell the inside of that pickup just thinking about it.

My grandfather had an early 50's F100.. Not sure of the details about it.. He didn't have it long..

My memory of Ford trucks and the disease to own them started in 1970..

A friend and I had to stay after school and walk home and a guy we new who lived down the street stopped to give us a ride home.

He had a Blue 68 F250 4x4 custom.. When I climb up into that truck I fell in love and knew then that I wanted one..

An 1976 F250 4x4 was the first vehicle I purchased with my own money and have owned one ever since..

My dad was in the navy immediately after high school in '56, and was in until the day he died. I don't remember how old I was at the time, but I distinctly remember living in some of the base housing in Norfolk, VA. It was a 2 story home, and I remember (I must have been sleeping in the bed with my mom) looking out the second story window down at the front door, seeing Dad coming home from some deployment. He was wearing his khaki uniform and has his sea bag over his shoulder. I had to be about 2 years old.
