What is the oldest memory you have of a ford truck...
(Please always keep this thread open)
* I'm still thinking back. I remember in the seventies; Greasers liked F100's a lot
("GREASER" was a fifties and hotrod thing. In Maryland at that time you were a Freak, Greaser, Jock, Geek, or some combination)
1952, I was 8 years old. My mom would drive us four boys around in the bed of the truck. Try that now. LOL When she would come upon a traffic signal, as she slowed down enough I used to jump out of the bed and stand on the running board. When she got even slower I would step off the running board and run along side of the truck.
I remember once I took a wide step and the back wheel ran over my foot. Didn't hurt' and I was able to catch back up and jump back in.
When I was a kid my oldest brother bought a brown 1983 Ranger. He installed a CB, air horns, built a cool in-bed storage with drawers to hold tools, put on a bed cap, and lit her up like a Christmas tree. I loved driving with him, especially when he'd let me pull the air horn chain and let her scream BWAAAHH BWAAAHH! He'd always ask me what kind of truck I was going to get when I got older and of course it was going to be a Ford truck, just like him. And here I am now...
march 1994, i was 5 years old and my grandpa came home with his brand new ford explorer. i got my first puppy that same day..i was a very happy kid! i learned to drive on that truck. i was able to get it back last year..but sold it wish i coulda kept it and restored it. oh well.
next best memory is when my aunt brought home my '96 explorer limited. i was 7 years old and spent alot of time in it as a kid. when i turned 14 i was lucky enough to buy it. i've owned it 8 years.
At about 12-13 yrs old......My Dad was a hard core Chevy truck guy, after suffering through 3 trans failures and a AC system failure on the warranty of his new Chevy 1500, he drove it over to the Ford lot and test drove a brand new F-250...............I never saw that Chevy again, nor has one ever darkened his driveway since. He is now a real hard core Ford guy.
The earliest distinct memory of a Ford is riding in my dad's '59 F350. My dad was driving, I was riding in the middle and my older sister was sitting by the passenger door, and when my dad got out of the pickup for something I pulled the hand parking brake lever that stuck out of the floor by the gear shift, and then laughed at him when he killed it trying to drive off. I don't know how old I was but I think it was before I started school.
I still see that old Ford driving around once in a while, if I could figure out who owns it I would try to buy it. I can almost smell the inside of that pickup just thinking about it.
My dad was in the navy immediately after high school in '56, and was in until the day he died. I don't remember how old I was at the time, but I distinctly remember living in some of the base housing in Norfolk, VA. It was a 2 story home, and I remember (I must have been sleeping in the bed with my mom) looking out the second story window down at the front door, seeing Dad coming home from some deployment. He was wearing his khaki uniform and has his sea bag over his shoulder. I had to be about 2 years old.
