thats also not how they get paid. they get paid to sell service not give it away.

See thats exactly what Im talking about - your couple of sentences explained more than anyone at that part. dealership was willing to do - and when it is explained that one code can possibly have so many different causes (which I never knew) it makes sense why they ask you to bring it in and test ... Their lack of willingness to tell you that and their seeming to have a lousy tude is where the problem came in ... Thanks for explaining now it all makes sense ...

I dont disagree. one of the biggist issues we have in most shops is that the people saling the service really dont know much about a car but what the read on the invoice when the work is done. They are sales people. The flip side of that is most tech dont make good sales people. But If you really want an awnser as to whats what find the tech. you may not like the awnser or the way its stated but odds are you get far more information.

sounds sensible obviously techs on here are very helpful & appreciated besides after 44 years in jersey I should be used to bad attitudes. just need to suck it up and ask questions in better places...
