So I was contemplating getting new rims for my truck. But then my neighbor said that I could take rims I have now and get them refinished. Apparently they will look like "new". I called the place today and the guy said he usually charges $150 a rim, but if I brought all 4, and cash he would work a deal for me.
So lets say it was $600, and I got them done for $500. Do you think it would be worth it? They are just 16 inch lariat rims. Nothing fancy. Part of me really wanted to go with a bigger rim, like an 18.
Has anyone done this before? How were the results? Does $150 sound high?
I got all 4 of my Lariat rims sandblasted & powdercoated for under $500 and I think they turned out pretty awesome. I think if I did it again, I might get more of a "dark charcoal" shade, but I'd for sure do it again. It's cost effective and you can keep buying "cheap" 16" tires that get the job done great.
Hey Papadelogan what color is your truck? Mine is like the dark cherry red/maroon color. I don't actually know the color of it. I thought about powder coating, but how long will that hold up until it starts chipping?
I am planning on stopping up there tomorrow after work, and asking him what he can do for me. I mean hell every vehicle anyone in my immediate family has owned has always had tires bought and put on here, all my utility trailers, my boat trailers, campers. My dad has been going there for 35 years.
So we will see what he can do for me. I like the idea of powder coating, I just don't know what color I would go with.
I had my wheels powdercoated over 3 years ago and they're not chipping yet. It's all about being prepped thoroughly, and that means getting a reputable shop to do the work.
I had some Lariat wheel powder coated last fall to the tune of $65 each, so 260 for all four. The key to a good powder coat job is the prep!, they need to get every last bit of the factory clear coat off for it to adhere properly

600 sounds high to me, even if that included busting them down and remounting. Should only be 60ish for remount and balance.
Walt those look pretty awesome. I am gonna try to locate a shop around here that does powder coating. I have no experience with it so I wouldn't even know the first thing about it.
I am gonna call around on Monday and talk to a few places. Will they sand the surface down so its perfectly smooth and not all scratched and pitted prior to painting them??
Also did you pain the whole rim? Or just the face?
