has anybody took the time to clean out their evaporator due to poor airflow? is there any special way the box comes apart? anybody have any tricks? let me know. thanks.
I replaced my evaporator core on my 88 a year ago. I'm the original
owner with over 320k miles on it. The core was clean. Only dirt
build up was around the pin hole leak where the oil and refrigerant
leaked out.
Only had to split the inner part (engine side) of the housing to replace
it. I believe you would need to split the outer part of the plastic housing
to get to the outside air side of the evaporator core.
Here's a picture of 86 corvette evaporator core. Car must have
traveled on a lot of dirt roads.
i was able to get a pretty decent look at it with the blower out and its pretty nasty. i have to have it on high to have any sort of decent flow. it doesnt seem like you would have to evacuate the system to clean it though.
