We had a prosecution here in North Jersey a couple of years ago, and he was in one of the most highly populated communities of Parsippany, it was amazing that they were even able to track him down.

I was under the impression that the reason was, that guided missiles used laser guidance for tracking a target and that was what they were afraid of, not blinding the pilot, or creating a momentary glare on their windshield.

I don't think I am up for being the beta passenger while they figure out pilot impact.

Here's the FAA's latest news release on the subject. It just came out yesterday.

FAA June 1st Report

On a side note, do ya'll see the green laser ads popping up on this FTE thread? lol. And i've priced the ones on Ebay too. I almost got one last year but am waiting for prices to come down on the higher powered ones. I'm a techy nerd, so electronic stuff like that interests me. I have never pointed it at aircraft and never would.

Stingers and their later variants use IR for homing (heat signature) the much more affordable and available shoulder fired, Russian SA11? (not certain of model designation) use a laser for initial guidance before its IR homing takes over..........This is probably the reason for much of the scare in aviation with lasers.
