filter not hooked up
ok well i put my engine back into my truck this past weekend. I found a filter be the brake booster, its not hooked up to anything and its hard to get too. What is it? should i hook it back up?

The item behind the booster was the old water separator........ you do not need it .....IF you use a WIX or other brand fuel filter with the water drain spigot on it. Then you can drain 2-4 ozs into a container on a regular basis checking for water contamination.

You only need to drain about 2-4 ozs max........ the water settles to the bottom. So after 2 ozs if there is no water shut off the drain. That should not cause any starting problems the 6.9 fuel filter header has an air bypass IIRC.

If you don't want to do it while its running (which is potentially dangerous with the fan belts and all...) Warm up the truck, turn it off, drain a few ounces, restart and run until it purges any air that may have entered the system. Its much easier starting warm than cold if you think air has entered the system.
