Unhappy Tanks for the memory....

So I received in my email last week or perhaps two weeks ago a notice from this website regarding "possible" recalls on the fuel tank straps of F-150s from 1997-2001.

This evening on the way home and just approaching the Fox River Bridge in Ashwaubenon, WI. I notice the BMW behind me suddenly switch lanes and then I noticed a distinct sound of something dragging. I immediately pulled off the highway and onto the shoulder, turn on the 4-ways and safely exited the truck. Went around to the rear and looked under, fearing the worst...like maybe the drive shaft or maybe I'd be lucky and just snagged some junk on the road....no such luck, the fuel tank was hanging by a mere thread of the front strap. So two of the three straps that hold up the tank broke. Luckily I only had 1/4 tank of fuel and damn lucky nothing was leaking.

Truck is at the Ford dealer....be interesting to hear what they have to tell me. I'm taking the write-up from this website with me in the morning. Sure hope they do a recall....keep all the receipts because IF they have a recall...then Ford will have to pay me back.

This truck has been real good for me, outside of the right rear head gasket/to manifold leaking oil ( another manufacture flaw that "should" have been taken care of under a recall...but wasn't) and this "possible" recall...not bad for a truck with 203k on the odometer.

Check those straps holding up your fuel tank!

Jerry
