7.3L PSD Upgrades
Hi Everyone i'm new to the FTE site and i have a couple questions about my 7.3L. I drive a 2000 Excursion and it isnt running right. it sat for about a year not running or anything just in my driveway and just recently since i've got my drivers license that its been driven. whats wrong with it is that injector 8 isnt firing properly, one of the blades in the turbo is chipped and its not building up alot of pressure, i'm running 2 batteries in the truck because something inside the system is killing the batteries so i have made a separate system to keep the batteries from dying and all i have to do is push a button when i start the truck to get the electrical system working. and i know all of these are hurting my fuel economy and my question is what would be great ways to fix these problems? and what would be great ways to upgrade the motor? and to get the best possible fuel economy?
Thanks so much guys!

First off, welcome to FTE. What are you basing the #8 injector not firing on? The turbo being chipped is NOT a good thing. You need to figure out what caused that and where the missing piece is. Any idea what your boost pressure is? Electrical is definitely gonna be a question for someone else. As far as the batteries go, you SHOULD have 2 batteries. Takes a lot of juice to turn these beasts over!

first off welcome to FTE the ppl here r amazing ppl and would love to answer your question :-)
injector 8, most likley its bad so probley replace and if u do one u might as well do them all since u want mods but theres the tricky part u need intake, exaust, gauges like egt (exaust gas tempture), boost exctetra but im missing one i think
turbo u deffentaly need to get that turbo fixed
batteries, ur truck should be running 2 batteries alredy electral problems r tricky
MPG- drive like a grannie it helps once u get ur up grades u can get a tuner i have herd lots about DP tuners tlbut there are several out there and they will help, but must have some mods first like gauges is highly recomended

well first off thx guys and what happened before the winter my dad and i pulled the injectors out and the turbo off and we re did the injectors and we put them back in and as far as i know if they are not placed back in properly there will be problems. and what happened with the turbo is that my dad put a rag in the intake to keep it from getting oil in side it and the it sucked the rag in and chipped the blade. and what i'm basing it off is when we were pulling it apart and putting it back in it was the one giving trouble the most. and we've been talking about sending the old injectors out to get repaired and upgrading to stage 2 after market injectors. what do you guys think of those? and for my boost pressure i have no clue.

My truck is stock engine wise. I don't have ANY experience with injectors although with 170ish K on my truck I'm about to learn a lot. You can get a new turbo wheel from Clay at RiffRaff for $100. I do know from seeing on here that #8 will fail a contribution test even when nothing is "wrong". That's why I asked about the basis for saying #8 was bad. Someone will be around shortly with more info. I would address that turbo wheel ASAP though.

Replace that turbo wheel immediately. Period.
Once that's done, make sure your wiring harnesses are connected and/or shimmed to stay put. It would be a good idea to torque your injectors to specification while you're in there.
Also, check to make sure you do not have any holes or tears in any of your intercooler boots. That will cause you to lose a lot of boost as well...but with a turbo with a piece of fan missing, not only is it not working well, it will be unbalanced too. Gotta get that done!!!

that was my first thought was the turbo because my truck is suffering from turbo lag and its the cheapest thing to repair in my truck, but i'm really concerned about what will happen if i upgrade to stage 2 injectors and not change exhaust and intake etc. and i've heard alot about the superchips like what can i expect if invest in one of those after i've done all the other upgrades?

Welcome to FTE. If you go with stage 2 or any up grades inj. you have to get the truck retuned some where like DP can do this for you, you can buy the injectors and tuner from them and get them all at once. Not changing the exhaust and intake wouldnt be a smart move on your part, do the 6637 intake, you can make it yourself or buy the kit from riffraff (Clay). You gonna want to step up your exhaust too 4'' turbo back exhaust. When you step up injectors and tune anything you engine is gonna be burning more fuel and your gonna want to let it breath as easy as you can

Do not do big injectors and a chip/tuner untill you have done intake, exhaust, and gauges. You don't want to melt your motor down.
