I am sure this has been brought up a time or two but I was hoping to get a few more oppinions on leveling kits and what they do to the longevity of your front suspension. I want to lift my front 1-1.5" only but its not worth it to me if I have to replace parts in 10k miles. My truck is an 05 4x4. Thanks for any input!
I have only heard a few people complain of issues from their leveling kit and they all had the 2" kit from what I remember. Going with a 1 - 1.5 inch is a slight change but will be enough to make a noticeable difference in appearance.
I have a 3" kit on the front and 1" on the back and put about 13k or so on the truck and have not noticed anything.
If I remember correctly the few people who have complained of things wearing out quickly stated they had the upper control arm sitting on the kit after install. That has to be was caused their issue but I have no clue as to why their kits would be sitting like that and why others aren't. Most kits just bolt on top of the strut so they are prett easy to install.
Been a while since I've looked into any of this, but the daystar kits I've seen are the poly bushing material that goes above the spring and below the upper strut assembly.
Nothing wrong with them; might wear a little with a lot of miles compaired to a steel spacer though.
More trouble to install since it requires you to dissassemble the strut assembly with a spring compressor.
How much does it cost?
You can get a 1.5" metal spacer for $80 shipped usually.
Also, something to think about...
A couple companys sell replacement shocks (I believe Bilstien, Rancho, and Skyjacker), that have adjustable lift heights built in (1"-2").
Believe it or not, but the stock shocks usually need to be replaced at around 30,000 miles, and are shot at 50,000.
The daystar poly kit is currently on sale at 4 wheel parts for 35.99, which is hard to beat in price. A good friend of mine has a shop so i'm not too concerned with compressing the coil but I am certainly open to doing it myself with a steel kit. I will look into it. Thanks.
i found a metal 1.5" kit on ebay for about 75 bucks that requires no strut disassembly. might go with that. what is the actual height difference in the front and back of an 05 4x4 supercab? it looks to be at least 2.5"
