92 E150 starting and idling problem

My 92 E150, 302, van when started cold would idle fast and after a few minutes idle down to normal. It has quit doing that. Now it is difficult to start and when it does start, it wants to barely idle. It usually dies the first couple of time it does start. Any idea why it has quit kicking into a fast idle when it is first started?

Fuel Injected engines generaly use a coolant temperature sensor to tell the computer the engine is cold, that might be bad, but before you go switching parts. When was the last tune-up? How old are the cap, rotor and wires. Is the check engine light on?

Give us some info and we will try to help you.

92 E150 starting and idling problem

Bought the van a couple of years ago at around 100,000 miles. It now has 127,000 miles. Have not replaced cap, rotor, or wires. Never done tune up. Check engine light is not on.

Thanks for your help.

I would do a full tune-up Cap,Rtr,Wires And Plugs. I would also change out the O2 sensor. That will probaly solve most of your problems.

Good luck
