An infamous E4OD Problem
My '95 E4od tranny is messing up on me. Sometimes it wont drop down to 1st gear when I hit the gas (from a complete stop). And sometimes it won't go to overdrive (unless I let off the gas and let it coast a bit). And lately it just spazzes out when I hit the gas, it can't decide what gear to be in, but only for about 300 ft.
Can anybody give me a clue as to what it might be?

Are there any tranny codes? check your transmission selectoir switch, it is mounted on the tranny right where the cable attatches. If that goes out, it will cause the tranny to not know what gear it is supposed to be in.

Rabidranger is right. Check the MLPS. It's the switch where the cable attaches to the trany on the driver side. It's actulaay a potentiometer, it sends a variable voltage to the PCM to tell it what gear it's in. The ECM uses this info to decide which solenoids to actuate inside the tranny.

An infamous E4OD Problem
This is an old message, so I hope somebody finds it and responds! My OD Off light quit working quite some time ago, and I put a new one in yesterday, and it doesn't work either. In the meantime, I've had other problems (seems like torque conv.) crop up and I can't even get a code to check 'cause the light doesn't work. Any thoughts?
